Keith Shologan, the REDBLACKS’ national defensive lineman who rocked the Montreal Alouettes with five tackles and three sacks last Friday at TD Place, has been honoured for that outstanding performance.
The second-year veteran and fan favourite was named one of the top CFL players in Week 7.
Shologan’s third sack of the game on Alouettes quarterback Rakeem Cato in the dying minutes of Friday’s game helped the REDBLACKS to a 26-23 victory against an East Division rival. It was the first three-sack game of Shologan’s eight-year CFL career.
The REDBLACKS also received standout efforts from quarterback Henry Burris, who set an all-time record for a quarterback of an Ottawa CFL team by completing 32 passes in a game, breaking the previous record set by David Archer in 1996 and equalled in 2005 by Kerry Joseph.
Receiver Greg Ellingson also helped the REDBLACKS, making eight catches for 110 yards, including a 38-yard reception from Burris late in the fourth deep in Montreal territory to set up the go-ahead touchdown.
The REDBLACKS return to practice on Tuesday, August 11 at TD Place. Practice begins at 12:15 p.m.
Their next game in on Saturday, August 15 in Calgary against the Stampeders. Kick-off is at 10 p.m., Ottawa time.
The REDBLACKS’ next home game at TD Place is Sunday, August 30 against the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Get your tickets while you can at capitaltickets.ca or by calling 613-232-6767.
