OTTAWA –  The Ottawa REDBLACKS marked another historic moment Friday when they officially moved into their home-field, TD Place. The REDBLACKS held their second regular season practice on the fresh turf in the new stadium.

After holding their training camp and first regular season practice at Carleton University during construction, it was exciting for the whole team to see their new home for the first time.

“This is actually the first day that any of the players saw this at all,” said Coach Rick Campbell.  “They had not been on the site at all. They wanted to do that on purpose so that when they showed up it was all new and it was a surprise to them. It was a good day to walk out here and be on our home-field.”

Ottawa native Kevin Scott was the first of the team to hit the field and became emotional when asked after practice about how it felt.

“Coming out here I had to just take a moment to take it all in and really truly enjoy it,” said the long snapper and linebacker. “I did come out here a little bit earlier today and just remembered what it was like when I was in the stands. And what it meant to me seeing those players on the field. I get to live my dream and play for the hometown team, so it’s pretty great.”

The REDBLACKS will kick off their season on the road in Winnipeg on July 3rd followed by a visit in Edmonton on the 11th. Finally they will return home on July 18th for the sold-out home opener against the Toronto Argonauts at TD Place.
