OTTAWA – The Canadian Football League announced its player of the week recipients for Week 4, which include REDBLACKS kicker/punter Brett Maher.
The 24-year-old native of Kearney, Nebraska becomes the first player in REDBLACKS history to achieve a player of the week award.
Maher booted six field goals, including a last-minute 23-yard game-winner, as the REDBLACKS scored an 18-17 victory in the team’s first game at TD Place.
Maher, a CFL rookie who completed a four-season collegiate career last year with the Nebraska Cornhuskers, also connected on five other three-pointers (from 26, 30, 22, 32 and 48 yards) and added six punts for 307 yards (51.2-yard average) and two kickoffs.
The record for most field goals in a game by an Ottawa kicker is seven, achieved most recently by Terry Baker with the Rough Riders in 1994 and also by Dean Dorsey in 1989.
