OTTAWA – RNation has voted, Chevon Walker is the REDBLACKS Mobile App Player of the Game for week six.
Walker, who is arguably one of the most popular players on the team, collected 47 rushing yards, 56 receiving yards and averaged 19.6 yards in kick returns during Saturday’s matchup against the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
The REDBLACKS fans thought his performance earned him the Player of the Game, an honor he is humble about considering the outcome of the game.
“It makes me feel good in a way but we didn’t win and at the end of the day we have to win games,” said Walker. “It’s a good feeling but we have to win so we can keep bringing fans out to the games.”
Walker has been a key target for quarterback Henry Burris not only for Saturday’s game but also throughout the season. It has created a strong relationship between the two former Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
“(The relationship) is important because at the end of the day he has to be able to count on me. It’s very important to know I have his back,” said the running back.
“When I get called I just know I have to execute no matter what the situation.”
Walker and the REDBLACKS next face the Calgary Stampeders this coming Saturday at McMahon Stadium.
“We are going to come out with a chip on our shoulder,” said Walker. “We are going to come out ready to play ball, ready to finish drives, complete passes and just over all make ourselves feel comfortable about the game. We have to get our job done, it’s about time we bring home a win.”
