OTTAWA – Antoine Pruneau has been making an impact on the REDBLACKS defensive line and his heavy hitting has certainly not gone unnoticed by REBDLACKS fans. The rookie was voted the REDBLACKS Mobile App player of the game for Ottawa’s 7-5 loss to the B.C. Lions over the weekend.
Pruneau had five big tackles during the game but he was not completely impressed with his performance.
“I don’t feel like it was my best game so far this year but, collectively I feel like it was a good performance, I am just happy that the fans liked it.” Said Purneau after Friday’s loss.
TD Place got hit with a severe thunderstorm late in the game that caused a lengthy rain delay. What looked like a tropical storm hit the nation’s capital and forced many fans to take cover. Upon resuming play, Pruneau was surprised with how many fans showed their devotion to the team by toughing out the miserable conditions until the end of the game.
“Honestly, I thought everyone would be out by then,” said Pruneau. “It was huge, when we came back to have more energy (from the fans). But unfortunately we didn’t do enough to win the game.”
The REDBLACKS currently have a 1-9 record which has begun to take its toll on the team. According to Pruneau the support from the fans is what is helping them get through the tough times.
“For sure it’s hard sometimes to come home happy but, we have the support of our fans still and that’s awesome,” said the 24-year-old. “When we play here they stay till the end, even when the weather was bad, and they keep supporting us. I would say that is what is really helping us.”
After this week’s bye the REDBLACKS will hit the road to visit the Saskatchewan Roughriders on September 21st.
