OTTAWA – The Ottawa Sports & Entertainment Group and the Ottawa REDBLACKS of the Canadian Football League extend congratulations to Leroy Blugh, the REDBLACKS’ defensive line coach, who has been selected for induction into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame.

Blugh, born in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and raised in Napanee, ON, played 15 seasons in the CFL with the Edmonton Eskimos (1989-2000) and Toronto Argonauts (2001-2003). He was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Canadian in 1996, was named a West Division all-star twice (1996, 1998) and won the Grey Cup with the Eskimos in 1993.

The Bishop’s University graduate returned as head coach of the Gaiters from 2005-2010 and served as an assistant with the Queen’s Golden Gaels in 2011 and 2012 before landing his first professional coaching position with the Eskimos as defensive line tutor for the 2013 season.

He was hired by the REDBLACKS as coach of the D-line in February.

“Leroy is a true professional and is a fine candidate for the Canadian Football Hall of Fame,” said REDBLACKS head coach Rick Campbell. “Everybody in the Canadian game knows Leroy Blugh and his passion for our sport and his dedication to making players better. He’s a great ambassador for our sport and we’re very pleased to see him receive such a prestigious honour.”

“Leroy is very deserving of this,” said REDBLACKS general manager Marcel Desjardins. “Leroy has been dedicated to Canadian football since a young age. He was an exceptional player and continued to contribute to the game as a coach in university and in the CFL. We’re extremely proud that he has been recognized in this way.”

Blugh is the second member of the REDBLACKS football operations staff to receive a Hall of Fame nomination. Team scout Miles Gorrell was inducted into the Hall in September 2013.

Blugh will be inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame as part of the 2015 class, during a ceremony later next year.
