On Friday morning, the REDBLACKS wrapped up their rookie camp at Carleton University. All of their 2015 CFL draft selections were in attendance, including number-one pick OL Alex Mateas and WR Jake Harty. The two freshman have experienced rookie camps before, Mateas with UConn (NCAA) and Harty with the University of Calgary (CIS), but noticed a significant difference at their first CFL camp.
Jake Harty, one of many UC Dinos at REDBLACKS rookie camp, had high praises for the pace and intensity of REDBLACKS rookie camp. “It’s got to be the speed, the tempo, and the playbook” Harty admitted. “You have to know what you’re doing at all times.”
Mateas, an Ottawa-native and former Sooner, already has a great understanding of the difference between college and CFL training camps. “The biggest thing is that you’re in charge of your own destiny” Alex explained. “Its professional football, you have to work hard and it’s all up to you to get it done.”
