Lansdowne is Live!

The Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group (OSEG) today announced that Lansdowne, Ottawa’s new, centrally located destination for live events, shopping, dining and recreational activities, is now live and fully ready to welcome guests. The announcement was made at a morning ceremony at Lansdowne that featured Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson, OSEG Chair Roger Greenberg, TD/Canada Trust Sr. VP Commercial Banking Chris Dyrda, Glebe Business Improvement Area (BIA) Executive Director Andrew Peck and OSEG CEO Bernie Ashe.

“We now have over 30 shops and restaurants open for business at Lansdowne, the greatest patio space in the city, events in the 18-acre park, concerts, sporting events, the Ottawa Farmers’ Market three days a week and ample underground parking at very low rates,” said Bernie Ashe.  “The vision for Lansdowne as a people place is now reality and we look forward to welcoming visitors seven days a week. Lansdowne is live.”

In his speech to the over 300 attendees at today’s event, Ashe referenced several upcoming concerts as examples of “Lansdowne Live,” including AC/DC – September 3, Alabama Shakes – September 24 and Chris De Burgh – September 25.  He also mentioned a free Serena Ryder concert on July 3 followed by the Ottawa REDBLACKS home opener on July 4 and the Fury FC Summer/Fall season opener on July 5.

Many other events and activities are scheduled at Lansdowne this summer and fall, and to make it easier to find out about them OSEG today launched a website that serves as a Lansdowne directory. The web address is www.LansdowneLive.ca.

Instead of a traditional ribbon cutting, 150 kindergarten and grade 1 students from Hopewell School released live butterflies at today’s ceremony to symbolize that the entire 40-acre Lansdowne site is now live.
