It’s only four weeks into our 2015 season and we’ve already experienced many highs and some lows.
When you have setbacks the easy route is to look for excuses or someone else to blame. We’re choosing to look for answers and finding solutions in order to keep improving as a football team. We’re right in the mix at the top of the East Division standings with a lot of football left to be played.
Now is not the time to mope around, now is the time for some grit. The CFL season is marathon; not a sprint. It is important that we maintain our passion and persistence to achieve our long term objectives.
There are many traits we are trying to foster within our football team, but two come to mind at this point of the season.
The first is to make sure each individual’s arrow is pointing up. This is a term we use for tracking whether or not a player is on the rise and is improving. Each one of us needs to identify a few specific things to work on each day to become a better player or coach. As each day passes you’re either getting better or worse. Time keeps marching on and nothing ever stays the same.
The other trait is resiliency. Resilient people don’t let a setback deter or distract them from focusing on the task at hand. Getting knocked down is not the problem, not getting back up is.
The next step in our journey is this Friday night at 7pm at TD Place against the Calgary Stampeders.
#RNation, your support and the atmosphere you create in our stadium are difference makers. Our players feel the great buzz in the stadium and our opponents are quickly realizing that TD Place is a tough environment to play in. You are playing a big part in making Ottawa a great place to play and watch football.
It is greatly appreciated and is never taken for granted.
Looking forward to seeing you Friday.
