As the REDBLACKS head west looking for their fifth win of the season against the defending Grey Cup champs, Calgary Stampeders, we look back at former Stamp, now REDBLACK, Mo Price’s rookie season in Calgary.
Though his rookie season was technically 2012, Price actually first signed with the Stampeders in 2009 before heading back to the NFL with the Baltimore Ravens. After spending the next three years on three different NFL teams’ practice rosters, and one stop in arena football, he found his way back to the CFL.
Price re-signed with the Stamps on February 22, 2012. He showed great potential as a starter in the pre-season, but unfortunately suffered a broken foot during training camp.
Price returned with five games left in the season and quickly became the leading receiver on the team. After a two-game readjustment period, Price took off. In his third game back, an out-of-season snowstorm descended on Calgary. Price thrived in the abnormal weather conditions, posting 71 receiving yards, while recording a 55-yard touchdown, his first in the league.
Over the next four games Mo would play some of the best football of his life. He racked up over 487 receiving yards and three TDs, highlighted by a game against provincial rivals, Edmonton Eskimos, where he collected 149 receiving yards.
Calgary advanced all the way to the Grey Cup that season, though they were defeated by the Toronto Argonauts. Price had a touchdown in the loss, but would go on to win the CFL’s ultimate prize two years later in 2014.
