Every quarterback that started and finished a game in Week 14 managed to throw for at least 200 yards. Jonathan Crompton was the outlier of the group after being benched at halftime in favour of Rakeem Cato in Saskatchewan. It’s a tough week to rank all the performances from pivots around the league, but that’s what we’re here for. On to the Week 14 QB Scorecard.
1) Trevor Harris, Argos
Week 14 stats: 24-36, 282 yards, 2 TD, 2 INT
Coming off three straight losses and a bye week to think about them all, Harris got the Argos off to a fast start in the nation’s capital. He completed six of seven passes on Toronto’s opening drive, which was capped by an eight-yard touchdown to Kevin Elliott. The Argos’ first-year starter was decisive and threw the ball with authority against Ottawa.
2) Bo Levi Mitchell, Stampeders
Week 14 stats: 27-35, 333 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT; 1 carry, 8 yards, 1 TD
After a win in Winnipeg, Mitchell talked about needing to be better in the red zone, but in the end Calgary did enough to get a victory. No. 19 is a consistently accurate passer and he also showed he can be a run threat too, scampering up the middle for an eight-yard major.
3) Henry Burris, REDBLACKS
Week 14 stats: 27-38, 313 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT
Burris started slow but rallied to make a game of it with the REDBLACKS ultimately falling short against Toronto. He managed to rack up his third-straight 300-yard passing effort and looks as good as ever. He’s now leads the CFL in passing with 3,611 yards.
4) Jonathon Jennings, Lions
Week 14 stats: 18-30, 281 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT
The rookie put BC up 23-7 with around five minutes left in the third quarter with his second touchdown pass of the game, but he couldn’t drive the offence to produce another point the rest of the way. Even though Jennings took the loss in his first CFL start he showed intriguing potential against a top tier defence.
5) Matt Nichols, Bombers
Week 14 stats: 18-28, 234 yards, 2 TD
Leading into Friday night, Nichols had thrown at least one interception in five straight games, a streak he snapped against Calgary. If the Bombers are going to make a playoff push he needs to take care of the football. Nichols gave Winnipeg a chance to win with the defending Grey Cup champs in the house.
6) Mike Reilly, Eskimos
Week 14 stats: 23-31, 209 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT; 8 carries, 30 yards
Derel Walker made a leaping 28-yard grab late in the third quarter and that ignited Reilly and Edmonton’s offence. Reilly helped rally the Eskimos to score 22 unanswered points and earn a victory at Commonwealth.
7) Kevin Glenn, Riders
Week 14 stats: 14-31, 212 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT
Macho Harris came up with an interception on Montreal’s opening drive and Kevin Glenn made the Alouettes pay for the turnover by throwing a 38-yard strike down the seam to Rob Bagg for a touchdown that got Saskatchewan off and running. From there the defence and running game did most of the heavy lifting.
8) Rakeem Cato, Alouettes
Week 14 stats: 14-21, 170 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT
Montreal’s rookie pivot saw his first action since Week 10, but it came in a difficult situation. Cato was inserted into the game to begin the second half with the Alouettes down 15-1. It clearly took some time for Cato to get back up to speed as evidenced by throwing a pick-six in the third quarter.
9) Jonathan Crompton, Alouettes
Week 14 stats: 8-18, 97 yards, 2 INT
Accuracy issues led to Crompton riding the pine. He was intercepted twice and that number could’ve easily been higher. That was an outing Crompton surely wants to delete from his memory.
