REDBLACKS quarterback Henry Burris has been named the CFL’s best player in September, a month in which the Oklahoma native led the team to a pair of road victories by setting Ottawa CFL passing records.
Burris shattered a long-standing standard for passing yards in one game, throwing for 477 yards on 35 completions, also an Ottawa CFL record, during a thrilling 30-27 victory over the Saskatchewan Roughriders at Mosaic Stadium in Regina on September 19. Burris threw two touchdown passes in the game, and also rushed for 16 yards and a major late in the game.
The record had been held since 1982 by Ottawa Rough Riders quarterback Chris Isaac.
Burris also provided an outstanding performance in Vancouver during a 31-18 win over the BC Lions on September 13, completing 26 of 37 passes for 317 yards.
Burris has passed for at least 300 yards in each of his last three games. In September, he totalled 1,107 passing yards, with a 66% completion rate, and 65 rushing yards.
The REDBLACKS will attempt to get October off to a great start in a game on Thursday against East Division-rival Montreal Alouettes. Kick-off is at 7:30 p.m.
