Quarterback Sneak
Before being traded to Winnipeg, QB Matt Nichols had already met the REDBLACKS twice this season as the Edmonton Eskimos starter.
Both games ended badly for Ottawa, as Edmonton is one only of two teams to sweep their season series against the REDBLACKS. In those two matchups, Nichols threw for 454 yards and four touchdowns.
A week ago in Ottawa, He looked horrible in the first half, but managed to ignite the offence late and pulled Winnipeg within three just before the final whistle. He threw for three touchdowns, but also three interceptions. After facing the REDBLACKS three times this year, Nichols should have clear idea of what he’s in store for today.
Moore Air Time
After spending three seasons with BC, Nick Moore signed with the Bombers as a free agent in 2014.
This year, Moore has been Winnipeg’s most productive receiver. Through 16 games, he has 66 receptions, 774 yards and 3 TDs. Last week against Ottawa, Moore caught one touchdown, but only recorded 32 receiving yards.
If the Bombers hope to change last week’s fate, he and QB Nichols will have to find chemistry early in Winnipeg.
Sack Attack
Last season, Winnipeg allowed a franchise worst 71 sacks. The Bombers upgraded their offensive line in the off-season, drafting Sukh Chungh with the second overall pick and signing Stanley Bryant and Dominic Picard.
The REDBLACKS are tied for the league lead in sacks this year (46), though the Bombers held Ottawa to only one sack last week at TD Place. They’ll have repeat that feat, if they hope to defeat the REDBLACKS in Winnipeg.
Back-to-back in Bomberville
The REDBLACKS travel to Investors Group Field to take on the Blue Bombers at 4 p.m. EDT. You can watch it on TSN and RDS2 or listen to all the action on TSN 1200 and 104,7 FM Outaouais.
