3-v-3: Players to watch on Saturday at TD Place

REDBLACKS

Justin Capicciotti: The Canadian born defensive lineman leads the REDBLACKS with 12 in sacks this season. Last week in Hamilton, he got to QB Jeff Mathews once and helped Ottawa’s d-line record six total against the Tabbies. The physicality exacted by the REDBLACKS defence knocked Mathews out of the game and onto the injury list. Facing third-string QB Jacory Harris this week at home, should prove even more advantageous for Capicciotti and rest of Ottawa’s d-line.

William Powell: The former NFL running back has filled in more than admirably for the injured Jeremiah Johnson. As Ottawa’s number one option in the backfield, Powell has racked up 464 combined (rushing and receiving) yards and 3 TDs. If the weather is anything like it was last week in Hamilton, watch for Powell to play a major part in the REDBLACKS offence.

Greg Ellingson:  This former Ticat should be playing Saturday’s game with a chip on his shoulder. In Hamilton last season, Ellingson suffered a minor injury and claims the Tabbies held him out of lineup once he was healthy. He’s 81 yards shy of 1,000 and has made some unbelievable catches this year. If the REDBLACKS are up by a lot early, look for QB Henry Burris to target Ellingson on every play possible.

TICATS

Jacory Harris: Coming out of Ticats training camp, Harris was ranked as the third starter. With injuries to starter Zach Collaros and backup Jeff Mathews, he’s been vaulted into the number one spot. He saw limited action against the REDBLACKS defence last week and completed 4/5 of his passes for 60 yards. If the Tabbies hope to earn East Division dominance, Harris will have to extend that minimal success against Ottawa.

Simoni Lawrence: After last week’s verbal back and forth with REDBLACKS QB Henry Burris, Lawrence should not expect a warm welcome at TD Place. Though Ottawa has repeatedly stated that there will be no retribution, Simoni’s low hit on Burris will make him a marked man in Saturday’s game. He’s a great linebacker and will need to be a physical force on the field for the Tabbies.

Brandon Banks: Speed. Speed. And more speed. There’s a reason Brandon’s Twitter handle is @speedybanks87. His kick return abilities are like no other, as he is arguably the CFL’s fastest player. Banks has 1,659 combined return yards and four return TDs this season. The REDBLACKS will need to contain Banks (and his speed) if they hope to win the game and the East Division.
