#RNation can get ready for plenty of Friday night football during the 2016 Canadian Football League season, as the schedule will feature six Friday night games under the lights at TD Place.
The league unveiled the schedule Thursday afternoon that will see the REDBLACKS begin the road to the 104th Grey Cup with a rematch of 2015 Grey Cup against the Eskimos on June 25 at Commonwealth Stadium.
Two weeks later the reigning East Division Champions host the Calgary Stampeders in their home opener on Friday, July 8 – their first of nine regular season home games in 2016.
“I am counting the days to the July 8 home opener at TD Place,” said Jeff Hunt, President of Sports at the Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group. “The atmosphere that #RNation creates makes every REDBLACKS game day a must-see event in our city.”
In addition to their six Friday night dates at TD Place, the home schedule also includes games on Thursday (August 25 vs BC), Saturday (August 6 vs Edmonton) and Sunday (July 31 vs Toronto).
The REDBLACKS will renew their rivalry with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats when they face them in back-to-back weeks starting with a Week 17 tilt in Steel Town (October 14) followed by a rematch of last year’s East Final at TD Place on Friday, October 21.
Ottawa will close out the regular season with a home-and-away series against the Blue Bombers starting with a Week 19 showdown in Winnipeg before their regular season finale at TD Place in Week 20 (Friday, November 4).
“It’s always an exciting day when the schedule comes out. It’s a reminder that football season will be here before you know it,” said REDBLACKS head coach Rick Campbell. “We’re busy preparing for the upcoming season and now we know who we’re playing and when we’re playing them. We can’t wait to get back out on the field with the best fans in the CFL at TD Place.”
The road schedule for the REDBLACKS includes a pair of Thursday night games, three on Friday nights and four Saturday games. Ottawa will have bye-weeks during Week 8 and Week 12.
The REDBLACKS will play two pre-season games – Monday, June 13 at TD Place against the Blue Bombers and Friday, June 17 at Tim Hortons Field against the Ti-Cats.
