Lock it up
The REDBLACKS came up short in their quest to capture the East Division title at home last weekend but will get another opportunity in Winnipeg on Saturday. With a one-point lead over Hamilton, the REDBLACKS can lock up the East with a win in Winnipeg – as long as the Tiger-Cats lose to the 8-8 Edmonton Eskimos on Friday night. Should Hamilton win, the push to capture the East will move to the final weekend of the season when the Bombers visit TD Place on November 4. Winnipeg will be hungry for the victory as a Bombers win, coupled with a BC Lions loss, would earn them a home playoff date.
1000 yard club
Though Ottawa receiver Brad Sinopoli couldn’t quite reach the 1,000-yard mark for the season last weekend, his 48 yards receiving against Hamilton has put the Canadian 37 yards away from the milestone. Should Sinopoli hit 1,000 yards over the final two games of the CFL regular season, it will give Ottawa four receivers with at least that many yards on the year for the second-straight season. Perhaps more impressively, it would be the same four players from last season – Sinopoli, Chris Williams, Greg Ellingson and Ernest Jackson.
That’s how you Madu it
It’s been tough being a REDBLACKS running back this season, but the club has somehow managed to maintain a respectable running game despite major losses. With a season-ending injury to William Powell in an exhibition game and two stays on the six-game injured list for Travon Van, the REDBLACKS have found success with second-year running back Mossis Madu Jr. The 28-year-old set a new career high for rushing yards last weekend against Hamilton with 85 – his second highest total in five games this season – to give him 365 yards on the season, up on the 348 he had last year in Hamilton.
