With a week of training camp in the books, the Ottawa REDBLACKS will put that work to use on Saturday afternoon as the club holds an inter-squad mock game at TD Place.
Fans are invited to come watch the game from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. as returning veterans and rookies alike get a break from drills and jump into the simulated games.
The game serves an important purposes for both players and coaches at this point in camp and Head Coach Rick Campbell wants to make it as realistic as possible.
“We make it so that everybody’s on the sideline, the coaches are calling plays…we want to make it as a game-like as possible,” Campbell said. “It’s kind of a dry run for our first pre-season game against Hamilton (on June 8 at TD Place).”
While all REDBLACKS training camp practices are open to the public, Saturday’s mock game will be a bit more exciting for fans who head down to TD Place.
“It’s actually a fun thing to watch, we’re going to keep score to make it competitive,” Campbell said. “We hope everybody comes and checks it out. It will be a fun practice to watch.”
The REDBLACKS will have a day off following Saturday’s game before returning to the field on Monday to kick off Week 2 of camp.
Fans are asked to enter the stadium via the staircase to the field near Gate 1 and sit in the north side, field-level seats.
