Build that lead
The REDBLACKS put themselves in a good position with last weekend’s win over Montreal, which gave Ottawa sole possession of first in the CFL’s East Division. Then Ottawa got a little help from their next opponents, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, who squeaked out their first win of the season in Monday’s Labour Day Classic, defeating the Toronto Argonauts to keep the REDBLACKS on top. Now in control of their own destiny, Ottawa can remain on top with a win on Saturday, which would give them four-straight victories which would tie a franchise regular season record.
You’re up, Brad
It would take a massive game from the Canadian Bud on Saturday to join Greg Ellingson as a 1,000-yard receiver in 2017, but Brad Sinopoli is getting closer. The ultra-dependable Canadian is well on his way to his third-straight season with at least 1,000, sitting just 190 yards short of the milestone heading into the clash with the Ti-Cats.
In addition to his 810 yards this season, Sinopoli has also added three touchdowns and sits second in the CFL with 334 yards after the catch. The former uOttawa Gee-Gees pivot is also eying a CFL record for most receptions in a season by a Canadian – already on-pace to top record-holder Ben Cahoon.
Key home points
With September having settled in, there are only three – yes, THREE – REDBLACKS regular season home games left in 2017. That’s potential for six huge points that could make a big difference down the stretch, especially considering the REDBLACKS schedule has both the club’s bye weeks coming in the final three weeks of the campaign. Two of those games, including Saturday’s, come against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, with a date against the Saskatchewan Roughriders in between.
