Road warriors
Saturday marks the start of not only Ottawa’s final road trip of the regular season, but also their longest. With less than a week between the REDBLACKS game against the Lions and their clash with the Roughriders in Saskatchewan, Ottawa will stay on the road between road games rather than returning home. With an expected dog fight for positioning in the CFL’s East Division, the four points up for grabs in these final two road games are crucial.
Three x 100 and counting
Not only did REDBLACKS running back William Powell record his third-straight game with at least 100 rushing yards last weekend, he also set a new team record for rushing yards in a single game, with 187.
In the process, Powell also became the first REDBLACKS player to have three-straight games with at least 100 yards and first Ottawa CFLer since Josh Ranek did it with the Renegades in 2003. With 743 yards on the year with three games remaining, it’s not impossible that Powell could hit the 1,000 yard mark this season.
Welcome (back) to the 1,000-yard club
Sitting at 989 yards on the season, it’s nearly certain that REDBLACKS receiver Brad Sinopoli will hit the 1,000-yard mark for the third straight season. While Sinopoli and fellow receiver Greg Ellingson are popular guys in the room, fan favourites and unquestionably skilled, the fact that both will be back over 1,000 yards for the third time in as many years is nothing short of amazing. Both have also had to fight hard for their yardage with Sinopoli and Ellingson sitting second and fourth in the CFL, respectively, in yards after the catch.
