Joe Thottungal is a community leader and award winning chef. During this Covid-19 pandemic, his restaurant Coconut Lagoon has been part of Food For Thought, a group of restaurants serving upwards of 50,000 hot meals to Ottawa’s most vulnerable residents. Tragedy struck in late May when a fire broke out in the building that housed his restaurant, putting the popular St Laurent Boulevard location out of commission. Despite that setback, Thottungal has continued to give back, finding an industrial kitchen to keep up with the demand for Food For Thought serving 1000 quality hot meals per day. Joe is quick to shine the spotlight on others; mainly, “All the hard working Chefs and a massive amount of dedicated volunteers that make everything happen.”
