The Ottawa REDBLACKS have re-signed national defensive back Ty Cranston, the team announced today.
“I’m very excited to be re-signing with Ottawa, and continuing my career with the REDBLACKS. Ottawa has become my home over the past 10 years and I’m excited to work to rebuild the strong REDBLACKS legacy that I’ve witnessed throughout my time in Ottawa,” Cranston said. “I’m looking forward to continuing to work with Coach Dyce, and reuniting with Khari Jones and Barron Miles. All three are coaches I greatly respect and have lots to offer this team and the city moving forward.”
Cranston, 28, arrived to Ottawa during the 2022 offseason, after having spent three seasons with the Montreal Alouettes. In his first campaign with the REDBLACKS, the Winnipeg, Manitoba native suited up in 17 games, finishing tied for fifth in the CFL with 17 special teams tackles, and adding three more on defence.
A product of the University of Ottawa, Cranston was selected in the seventh round, 56th overall, by the Als in the 2017 CFL Draft.

« Je suis très excité de resigner avec Ottawa et de poursuivre ma carrière avec le ROUGE et NOIR. Ottawa est devenu mon chez-moi au cours des 10 dernières années et je suis enthousiaste à l’idée de travailler à rebâtir le solide héritage du ROUGE et NOIR dont j’ai été témoin tout au long de mon séjour à Ottawa », a déclaré Cranston. « J’ai hâte de continuer à travailler avec Coach Dyce et de retrouver Khari Jones et Barron Miles. Tous les trois sont des entraîneurs que je respecte énormément et qui ont beaucoup à offrir à cette équipe et à la ville pour aller de l’avant. »
Cranston, 28 ans, est arrivé à Ottawa au cours de la saison morte 2022, après avoir passé trois saisons avec les Alouettes de Montréal. À sa première campagne avec le ROUGE et NOIR, le natif de Winnipeg, au Manitoba, a disputé 17 matchs, terminant à égalité au cinquième rang de la LCF avec 17 plaqués sur des équipes spéciales et en ajoutant trois autres en défense.
Produit de l’Université d’Ottawa, Cranston a été sélectionné en septième ronde, 56e au total, par les Als lors du repêchage 2017 de la LCF.
