It’s been a long time since the Ottawa REDBLACKS have faced the Saskatchewan Roughriders on their own turf at TD Place, but the wait for RNation comes to an end, Friday night.
For the first time since June 20, 2019, Ottawa will have home ice advantage against their Western rivals, when they kick off at 7:00pm on Friday night.
The REDBLACKS are looking to snap their current seven-game losing streak, after dropping a heartbreaking 41-37 road loss to the BC Lions on Saturday. Dustin Crum threw for 233 yards, and rushed for a trio of touchdowns on 46 yards. On defence, Douglas Coleman ran home a pick six, while Sherrod Baltimore, and Damon Webb also nabbed interceptions.
Ottawa will have to contend with yet even more injury losses, with kicker Lewis Ward’s season ending due to a torn pectoral muscle. The REDBLACKS have signed Michael Domagala to handle kicking duties on Friday night, and Sam linebacker Douglas Coleman is a game-time decision due to illness, and Jovan Santos-Knox carries the same designation with an ankle injury. Nate Behar is down with an ankle injury, so Tevaun Smith starts in his place, and Siaosi Mariner gets back in the lineup.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
The Riders have had injury issues of their own, with third-string quarterback Jake Dolegala handling starting duties since Week 8. Fittingly, he also led the team to a nail-biting loss last week, in the form of a 36-27 home loss to the Edmonton Elks. Dolegala threw three touchdowns in a 213-yard performance; two to Shawn Bane, and one to Tevin Jones.
C.J. Reavis notched an interception in the effort for Saskatchewan.
THE MATCHUP:
• These two teams faced off at Mosaic in Week 9, where the Riders pulled off a last-second 26-24 win. Crum threw for 174 yards, and Coleman scooped and scored Ottawa’s only major. Bane hauled in a touchdown pass from Mason Fine, and Jamal Morrow rushed one in.
